What is the Difference Between a Mini Tummy Tuck & Tummy Tuck in Thailand?

Updated: Mar 22, 2022

Whether you’ve had a baby or lost a dramatic amount of weight resulting in excess skin, the best way to tighten your stomach and improve the contours of your abdomen is with a tummy tuck.

Many people travel to Thailand to get this procedure done, as it is complex and costly in most Western countries.

However, note that you don’t have to go all-in with a full tummy tuck. Mini tummy tucks in Thailand are perfect if you only need to tighten the skin below the belly button.

So what are the major differences between these two procedures and which one is the best for your needs? We explain it all in this post!

Tummy tuck or abdominoplasty in Thailand

A full tummy tuck is commonly performed under general anesthesia, with the main objective of removing excess skin and fat from the lower and mid abdominal area.

A long incision is made below the belly button and just above the pubic area. The surgeon will then separate the skin from the abdominal wall, all the way up to the ribcage.

Next, the doctor will stitch the underlying muscle and tissue together, tightening them. This narrows the waist and strengthens the abdominal wall.

Depending on the amount of work that needs to be done, the surgeon may cut out the tissue surrounding the navel, “replacing” it once the skin has been contoured. This is done to ensure the navel is in the correct place on the abdomen once the excess skin has been removed.

The best candidate for this type of surgery is someone who is finished having children and would like to makeover their abdominal region to erase the after-effects of pregnancy. It’s also suitable for someone who has lost a lot of weight and has excessive loose skin left over.

A full tummy tuck in Thailand takes around five hours to complete, with a recovery period of six weeks. Note that the scars from this surgery are permanent, but will fade over time.

How much does tummy tuck surgery cost in Thailand?

If you decide to get the procedure done in Thailand, plan to stay for at least a month to rest and relax in a comfortable location that’s close to the medical facility (we can help with that!). A tummy tuck in Thailand costs around 160,000 baht.

Mini tummy tuck in Thailand

If you’re worried about scarring from a tummy tuck in Bangkok, then you might be eligible for a mini tuck. This procedure requires a smaller, less conspicuous incision that is about 6-12 inches in length above the pubic area.

The difference is that excess skin is only removed and flattened below the belly button with a mini, while the full tummy tuck treats the lower abdomen and also the upper abdominal region to correct diastasis recti (separated abs that is common after pregnancy).

Therefore, the mini tummy tuck isn’t for everyone. The ideal candidate for this procedure is a slender person who is close to their ideal weight, with just a small amount of excess skin to remove.

When you arrive in Thailand for your tummy tuck, the surgeon can direct you on which procedure is the best one for you during your consultation.

The mini tummy tuck generally has a shorter recovery time than a full tuck, but you’ll still be expected to avoid strenuous activities for six weeks and wear a binder around your waist for support.

Getting a tummy tuck in Thailand Conclusion

The main difference between a full tummy tuck and a mini tummy tuck in Thailand is that the full tuck is more invasive than the mini, with a permanent scar (although it should fade). The mini tummy tuck is better suited for slim individuals with minimal excess skin to remove, resulting in a smaller scar and downtime.
